someone said “we are reading the first verse of the first chapter of a book, whose pages are infinite”. i dont know who wrote these words, but ive always liked them as a reminder that the future can be anything we want it to be. we are all in the position of the farmers. if we plant a good seed ,we reap a good harvest. if we plant nothing at all, we harvest nothing at all.

we are young. “how to spend the youth?” it is a meaningful question. to answer it, first i have to ask “what do you understand by the word youth?” youth is not a time of life, its a state of mind. its not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips or supple knees. its the matter of the will. its the freshness of the deep spring of life.

youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity of the appetite , for adventure over the love of ease. this often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20 . nobody grows old merely by a number of years . we grow old by deserting our ideals. years wrinkle the skin , but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul . worry , fear , self –distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust .

whether 60 of 16 , there is in every human being s heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing childlike appetite of whats next and the joy of the game of living . in the center of your heart and my heart theres a wireless station : so long as it receives messages of beauty , hope ,cheer, courage and power from men and from the infinite, so long as you are young .

a poet said “to see a world in a grain of sand, and a heaven in a wild flower, hold infinity in the palm of your hand, and eternity in an hour. several days ago, i had a chance to listen to a lecture. i learnt a lot there. id like to share it with all of you. lets show our right palms. we can see three lines that show how our love.career and life is. i have a short line of life. what about yours? i wondered whether we could see our future in this way. well, lets make a fist. where is our future? where is our love, career, and life? tell me.yeah, it is in our hands. it is held in ourselves.

we all want the future to be better than the past. but the future ca n go better itself. dont cry because it is over, smile because it happened. from the past, weve learnt that the life is tough, but we are tougher. weve learnt that we cant choose how we feel, but we can choose what about it. failure doesnt mean you dont have it, it does mean you should do it in a different way. failure doesnt mean you should give up, it does mean you must try harder.

as what i said at the beginning, “we are reading the first verse of the first chapter of a book, whose pages are infinite”. the past has gone. nothing we do will change it. but the future is in front of us. believe that what we give to the world, the world will give to us. and from today on, lets be the owners of ourselves, and speak out “we are the world, we are the future.”

winston churchill presented his sinews of peace, (the iron curtain speech), at westminster college in fulton, missouri on march 5, 1946 .

president mccluer, ladies and gentlemen, and last, but certainly not least, the president of the united states of america:

i am very glad indeed to come to westminster college this afternoon, and i am complimented that you should give me a degree from an institution whose reputation has been so solidly established. the name "westminster" somehow or other seems familiar to me. i feel as if i have heard of it before. indeed now that i come to think of it, it was at westminster that i received a very large part of my education in politics, dialectic, rhetoric, and one or two other things. in fact we have both been educated at the same, or similar, or, at any rate, kindred establishments.

it is also an honor, ladies and gentlemen, perhaps almost unique, for a private visitor to be introduced to an academic audience by the president of the united states. amid his heavy burdens, duties, and responsibilities--unsought but not recoiled from--the president has traveled a thousand miles to dignify and magnify our meeting here to-day and to give me an opportunity of addressing this kindred nation, as well as my own countrymen acrothe ocean, and perhaps some other countries too. the president has told you that it is his wish, as i am sure it is yours, that i should have full liberty to give my true and faithful counsel in these anxious and baffling times. i shall certainly avail myself of this freedom, and feel the more right to do so because any private ambitions i may have cherished in my younger days have been satisfied beyond my wildest dreams. let me however make it clear that i have no official mission or status of any kind, and that i speak only for myself. there is nothing here but what you see.

i can therefore allow my mind, with the experience of a lifetime, to play over the problems which beset us on the morrow of our absolute victory in arms, and to try to make sure with what strength i have that what has gained with so much sacrifice and suffering shall be preserved for the future glory and safety of mankind.

ladies and gentlemen, the united states stands at this time at the pinnacle of world power. it is a solemn moment for the american democracy. for with primacy in power is also joined an awe-inspiring accountability to the future. if you look around you, you must feel not only the sense of duty done but also you must feel anxiety lest you fall below the level of achievement. opportunity is here and now, clear and shining for both our countries. to reject it or ignore it or fritter it away will bring upon us all the long reproaches of the after-time. it is necessary that the constancy of mind, persistency of purpose, and the grand simplicity of decision shall rule and guide the conduct of the english-speaking peoples in peace as they did in war. we must, and i believe we shall, prove ourselves equal to this severe requirement.

president mccluer, when american military men approach some serious situation they are wont to write at the head of their directive the words "over-all strategic concept". there is wisdom in this, as it leads to clarity of thought. what then is the over-all strategic concept which we should inscribe to-day? it is nothing lethan the safety and welfare, the freedom and progress, of all the homes and families of all the men and women in all the lands. and here i speak particularly of the myriad cottage or apartment homes where the wage-earner strives amid the accidents and difficulties of life to guard his wife and children from privation and bring the family up the fear of the lord, or upon ethical conceptions which often play their potent part.

good afternoon ,ladies and gentlemen!

i’m very honored to stand here and give you a short speech! my topic is opportunities and challenges.

first, i would like to know, what does your destiny offer you? happiness, wisdom, a strong body or something else. if i had asked this question to president nixon, he would probably had said,”our destiny offers not the cup of despair, but the chalice of opportunity.”

needless to say, one of the biggest opportunities given to china is the 20xx olympic games. till now, we have used two sevenths of the preparation time. how much changes have you seen? new roads, new subway lines, public-exercising equipments with beautiful colors, large blocks of grass fields, and also lots of modern gyms which are under construction.

other than those, there are even more good effects brought to us by the olympic games that cannot be seen directly. for example, more and more people will get to know china. i’m sure the mysterious chinese culture will attract them strongly. and the games will also do good to the economy and environment, for it is gaining the attention of foreign investors and the awareness of environmental protection is being strengthened. what is more, olympic games give a unique opportunity to inspire and educate a new generation of chinese youth with the olympic values and the olympic spirit. now that we have seen so many advances, could you even imagine us losing the holding rights?

i’ve already said a lot about the olympics and china. but i think everyone should use some time to think of this question, ”does the olympic games have any special meaning to you?”

for us, i mean the chinese youth, 20xx olympic games is a tremendous gift. because what we are waiting for is to do something significant as repaying the love given to us .the society is just like a ship, and in our dreams the captain is waving his hand and saying ”hey! come here and take the helm! ”how charming his voice is, but we have never heard of it in our true life. this morning, however, when we wake up, we will see the olympic games waving its hand. after chewing, most of us will have at least one plan about what to do for the olympic games. and mine is to be a “comforter” ----that is someone who will give comfort to others.

at the end of my speech, i hope all the preparation will go well, and everyone will show their ability to the world. let us seize opportunities and give a big smile to challenges.

dear teachers, dear students, hello everyone!

in our real life, everyone will have a successful experience, there are also encountered the bitter failure, success, a brilliant smile on his face; encountered setbacks, some defeat, have a plenty of efforts to forge ahead, to meet difficulties. for our students, how should we face the success and failure of study and life?

this leads to the theme i want to talk about today - " victory is not arrogant defeat not lose heart". the ancients once said, " the winner is not proud, the loser is not discouraged. " speak is this truth, when you after their own efforts to succeed, must not be complacent, proud of the world, defiant, but should summarize the successful experience, make persistent efforts, to higher and better goals and strive for; when you encounter setbacks and failures, never lose heart, broken pot broken fall, but should carefully check what you do, to find out the reason, constantly sum up, will be from a failure to success. failure is not terrible, terrible is that we cant realize their own shortcomings.

we often say that " failure is the mother of success", is on the road to success, failure is sometimes inevitable, the great inventor edison is not after countless failures to success? after countless failures - success, in failure in success, finally invented the electric light. edison is such, the athens olympic champion liu xiang is the same, he is also after countless failures to achieve such a remarkable record, achieved the asian sprint gold medal zero breakthrough, for the chinese people for the light, also for the asian people for the light! but to learn from failure, learn from successful people, from the psychological understanding of failure is temporary, as long as you can adjust the state of mind, find out the problem, in addition to their hard work, you will be able to achieve their satisfactory results.

we have just had the mid-term exam, because each students foundation is not the same, some students through their own efforts to achieve excellent results, and some students feel their grades are not ideal, did not reach their goals. so there are two kinds of mentality of students. good examination with the society rejoiced, but not proud, but also to continue to move forward; test temporarily irrational students dont pessimistic disappointment, leak to fill a vacancy, will eventually achieve excellent results. what i want to tell you is that the test is just a means of testing, through which you reflect the degree of knowledge you have learned since the beginning of the school, the level of scores can only represent the past, not represent the future. as long as you can analyze the reasons for your failure from the exam, summed up their shortcomings, i believe that in the future test you will be in the top.

thank you.

ladies and gentlemen,boys and girls,

i am chinese. i am proud of being a chinese with five thousand years of civilization behind. i’ve learned about the four great inventions made by our forefathers. i’ve learned about the great wall and the yangtze river. i’ve learned about zhang heng and i’ve learned about zheng he.who says the yellow river civilization has vanished?i know that my ancestors have made miracles on this fertile land and we’re still making miracles.

who can ignore the fact that we have established ourselves as a great state in the world, that we have devised our own nuclear weapons, that we have successfully sent our satellites into space, and that our gnp ranks no. 7 in the world? we have experienced the plunders by other nations, and we have experienced the war. yet, based on such ruins, there still stands our nation----china,unyielding and unconquerable!

i once came across an american tourist. she said,“china has a history of five thousand years, but the us only has a history of 200 years. five thousand years ago, china took the lead in the world, and now it is the us that is leading.” my heart was deeply touched by these words. it is true that we’re still a developing nation, but it doesn’t mean that we can despise ourselves.

we have such a long-standing history,we have such abundant resources,we have such intelligent and diligent people, and we have enough to be proud of. we have reasons to say proudly:we are sure to take the lead in the world in the future again, for our problems are big,but our ambition is even bigger, our challenges are great, but our will is even greater.

i am chinese. i have inherited black hair and black eyes. i have inherited the virtues of my ancestors. i have also taken over responsibility. i am sure, that wherever i go,whatever i do,i shall never forget that i am chinese!

on my birthday two years ago, many special things happened on me. and iwould remember them forever.

that morning, i rode my bike to school happily as usual. on my way tothe

classroom, i saw some of my classmates. but when they saw me, they rushedaway. that made me confused. because they would talk to me or play jokes on mebefore. but it was strange today.

when i came into the classroom, i found the atmosphere was quitestrange.

everybody looked at me and laughed loudly. suddenly they all said in goodorder,“happy birthday to you!” then they began to sing “happy birthday to you——”that made me moved. i never told anyone about my birthday, how did they know? ibelieved they must have done a lot of things. at that moment, i found nothing tosay but thanks instead!

after school, a thing coming as a surprise happened on me on my way backhome. when i was riding suddenly a crowed of people rushed out to stopped mybike.i recogized them at once. they were my senior classmates. they allcomlained to me,“why don't you tell us about your birthday? don't you fear thatwe will let you stand treat? this time you owe us.” then each of them gave agift and a card with best wishes to me. i was deeply moved again. i suggestedhaving a dinner together. but they all refused because of the time. then theyleft me saying we would ask you to pay us another day!

when i got back home, i thought of everything happened today. suddenly ifelt so happy because i had such great friends around me. i thanked them fromthe bottom of my heart. i would value the precious friendship forever!

i have so many feelings through that special day. the only rose withoutthorns in the world is friendship. a true friend is someone who reaches for yourhand and touches your heart. truly great friends are hard to find, difficult toleave, and impossible to forget. one friend in a lifetime is much, two are many, three are hardly possible. stick to make friends, for life without friends islike life on a desert island. to find one real friend in a lifetime is goodfortune, to keep him is a blessing.

thank you for your attention!

the first time i saw a square watermelon, my hair stood on end. years ago a japanese came up with the idea of square watermelons because he thought it would save more space. intelligent and effective as it is, have you ever thought about how tragic it is for the watermelon?

i can't imagine that poor fruit's childhood, being imprisoned and limited in a dark cubic cell, not even able to stretch its arms and legs. because only in this way, can it truly become a square watermelon.

unfortunately, isn't this the way we grew up? under the pressure of being forced to strive for one goal after another, we almost became identical. however, at the same time, there is still a bunch of people, careless of the dark cell, following their passion, their dreams.

maybe there is not a "right" or "wrong" between being forced by pressure or following your dream. i mean, pressure can make things going in an effective, though boring, way. by contrast, passion and dreams enrich your life, though sometimes it's risky to stick to them. nevertheless, ladies and gentlemen, following your dream with passion is what everyone should choose to do.

let me explain it this way.

my grandmother was very shocked when she found out that i know what my cousin sister is doing simply by clicking on her blog. hesitating for a little while, though, she asked for my help and decided to start her "social network life" at the advanced age of 85.

think about this, a woman didn't give up her passion, and tried not to fall behind, even almost in the evening of her life. what supported her is her passion and her dream. the sad truth is that not everyone is able to enjoy this part of life. when they become old, or, as some would say, when they become mature, their mind is imprisoned into a box, partly by society, partly by themselves. they have tons of things they must do also tons of things they must not do. in essence, thousands of millions of people are becoming like square melons with an imprisoned mind.

this reminds me of a book i once read called "brave new world". in the story, the world in 2532 is highly efficient, stable and prosperous. people are classified before they are born, when they are from the same family they will have the same face, the same abilities and same future. that’s a world in which there’s no passion or dream. only pressure and and striving.

ladies and gentlemen, this is the world we could end up in, if we allow ourselves to be blocked in, like the square melons.

today i come to oslo as a trustee, inspired and with renewed dedication to humanity; i accept this prize on behalf of all men who loved peace and brotherhood. i say i come as a trustee, for in the depths of my heart i am aware that this prize is much more than an honor to me personally.

the road of history is not level and smooth all along. sometimes the path will come to a dangerous and difficult place.

it is only with the valiant and gallant spirit of the travelers that it can be passed through.

the vast and mighty yangtzi river, when it comes to an endless, broad plain, will flow ten thousand miles in a rapid current. but as it reaches a narrow valley with high ranges of mountains, cliffs and precipices on both sides, which look dangerously steep, the river has to force its way through them in a winding, tortuous course. the same is the case with the developing course of a nation's history.

the history of human race is like going on a journey. some of the places the traveler passes through are smooth and level pianos, and others are dangerous and rugged paths. the experienced travelers, when they moved on to a broad, level road, will naturally walk along with a light heart, but while they are passing through a rugged place they will all the more be seized with curiosity, and in such an extremely fantastic and magnificent realm, will all the more feel a sort of pleasure in an adventure.
