中美教育价值观比较

　　【Abstract】As the title suggests this paper makes a comparison and contrast between Chinese value and American value in education from all aspects and contributes the cause to cultural difference.

　　The concept of Chinese values is often consciously or unconsciously placed in opposition with American values in education such as school, teacher, parents and students. We can differentiate one from the other from the following aspects.
　　Ⅰ School wise
　　American girls are almost always involved in sports, dancing and singing groups while Chinese girls are almost always involved in academic groups. The pursuit of personality and achievements is the core of individualism, which is highly valued, earnestly believed and well appreciated as a fundamental social virtue. Most of Chinese students concentrate on their studies. They are told that as students they should follow the majority competing for higher score with classmates, for collectivism is the moral norm.
　　American students think that B is a gift while Chinese students think that B is a death sentence. In the eyes of American pupils ability is much more important than diploma or certificate.
　　Ⅱ Teachers wise
　　American teachers love everyone equally. They respect every personality. Actually, they love bad students more than good ones. Chinese teachers always favor the good students. However, it is often the case that the punished “bad eggs” instead of the favored ones will show their gratitude to their teachers later.
　　During parents meeting, American teachers will always find good things to say to the parents, even to those with the worst grades while Chinese teachers tells the parents every single mistake that their children made in school. In class if a student doesn’t behave himself, his teacher will threaten him by saying, “If you do that again, I’ll report you to your father.”
　　American teachers don’t teach. They just sit there and make the students read on their own. An American teacher may even just give his or her students a free hand and let them learn by trial and error.（As is the case with a shepherd who allows the sheep feed themselves.）Chinese teachers are usually not allowed to be seated while giving a lesson. They are supposed to teach things that are between the lines and beyond the books to win the admiration of their fans. For them, the platform is the very stage performing like a star. In class, American teachers expect their pupils to speak and think critically and creatively while Chinese teachers require their students to look nd listen carefully, take notes hastily and memorize the rules exactly.
　　Ⅲ Parents wise
　　American parents allow their daughters or sons to go out with their boyfriends or girlfriends as long as they come home at the certain curfew. Chinese parents usually don’t approve of their children’s premature making friends with the opposite sex in middle or high school.
